In today’s day and age, the urge to have it all and social media are tied together. Let’s say you see a post of one of your favourite influencer wearing a designer dress. It will fuel a desire inside of you to have it. It is inevitable. We seek validation. We want to feel like we belong. However, not everyone can afford those expensive clothes. Enter here the devil: fast fashion. We’ve all fallen for it. “Let me buy just this one dupe” but you end up buying for 200$ of useless clothes. Yes, useless. Why? Fast fashion feeds of mini-trends and bad materials. That shirt with the little bows? I bet you it’s price (which was probably only 10$) you only wore it once. I believe in quality over quantity. So should you.
Easier said than done, I know. You see everyone have it and you think you want it too. You don’t. No one should base their fashion style over what is currently trending. It’s a waste of time and money. Circling back to the title. There is an invisible string tied between fast fashion and social media. Being unique is much better than being like everyone else. So why do we fall for it every time? As a collective, we need to stop basing our interest on what’s popular at the moment. Trends are fun but they’re just that. Trends. Ask yourself if you really want that bag. And if you do, good. Buy the real thing. Don’t feed off the horrendous industry that is fast fashion.
Fashion is one of the most influential industry in the world. Be on the good side. Also, don’t get my words wrong. It is not because you do not own designer clothes that you feed into the bad side of fashion. Let’s be rational. High fashion is a luxury. There are so many sustainable, unique and affordable clothing brands. Hannah Lizzy on TikTok ( @hannahlizzy_) is one of my favourite fashion influencers. She is great help for finding these brands. Go check out her page. Now please, let’s leave overconsumption in the past and focus on building a wardrobe that lasts and that fits our own personality.
Thank you for reading the sublime blog. Never forget: you are “sublime”.
